BEMIDJI, Minn. - A quartet of seniors led the Bemidji State University women’s ice hockey team to a 5-1 victory over the University of Findlay today at the John Glas Fieldhouse. Amber Fryklund scored a goal and two assists, Lisa Peters collected three assists, Lill Raynard added two assists, and Bre Dedrickson collected 24 saves in net for the Beavers on Senior’s Day.
The Beavers took an early first period lead for the second night in a row and would never look back. Lill Raynard got BSU on the board with a power play goal 6:23 into the first period when she took a pass from fellow senior Lisa Peters to beat the Findlay goaltender for the first score of the game.
Findlay would come back 3:25 later (9:48) when Danielle Wysomierski and Tanya Truszowski fed Leanne Trunks for her second goal of the season, knotting the game 1-1.
Bemidji State reclaimed the lead when Caesare Stimson scored her first goal of the game at the 12:25 mark of the period with assists credited to Amber Fryklund and Emily Curcuruto.
The second frame would belong to the Beavers. Out-shooting the Oilers 15-8 in the period, BSU scored twice to increase its lead to three goals.
Amber Fryklund scored the Beaver’s second power play goal at the 5:12 mark of the frame. Peters collected her second assist of the game as the Beavers stretched their lead to 3-1. Stimson added her second goal at 12:59 as seniors Fryklund and Raynard helped on the play.
In the third period, Carly Napier padded the BSU lead when she took a pass from Peters and used her speed to skate away from the Findlay defense and beat the goaltender 1-on-1 for her third career goal putting the Beavers up 5-1.
Bre Dedrickson was in the net for the Beavers making 24 saves for her second win of the season. Jessica Moffat played 54:38 between the pipes for Findlay making 25 saves. She was replaced by Amy Jones with 5:22 left in the third stanza. Jones recorded two saves.
Bemidji State honored its eight seniors before the game. This year’s senior class includes: Bre Dedrickson, Amber Fryklund, Betsy Hegland, Alicia Kinsman, Kerri McEwen, Lisa Peters, Lill Raynard, and Amy Shepler.
BSU is 9-13-6 on the season and 5-10-5 in WCHA competition. The Beavers will be in action again next weekend as they participate in a home-and-home series with the No. 2 University of Minnesota-Duluth Saturday UMD will travel to Bemidji, Minn. for a 2:05 p.m. contest. Sunday the Beavers will make the trip to Duluth, Minn. as the puck will drop at 2:05 p.m.
