ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State’s Roxanne Stang scored two goals and four assists to help lead the Huskies to a 7-3 victory over the Bemidji State women’s hockey team Saturday night at the National Hockey Center. The SCSU win marks the first victory over BSU since the Huskies topped the Beavers 4-2 on Oct. 13, 2002, in St. Cloud.

St. Cloud State opened the game’s scoring at the 2:25 mark of the first period, as Ashley Stewart notched her seventh marker of the season on the power play to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. SCSU struck again at 10:59 of the opening period when Roxanne Stang scored her fifth goal of the season to put SCSU head 2-0.

Leanne Perrin extended the Huskies lead less than two minutes into the second period, giving St. Cloud State a 3-0 advantage.

BSU forward Kelly Hart broke up SCSU’s stake at a shutout with a power play tally at 10:13 of the second stanza off a helper from Nikki Eckebrecht to cut the Husky lead to 3-1. Hart’s goal was her team-leading sixth marker of the season.

From then on, however, St. Cloud State’s offense proved to be too much for the Beavers, as the Huskies picked up even-strength goals from Ashley Stewart at 19:56 of the second period and Carrie Holldorf just eight seconds into the final frame to put SCSU ahead 5-1.

Bemidji State would add two more scores in the third period, as Jenny Schnickel netted her second goal of the year at the 3:36 mark off assists from Hart and Eckebrecht, while Kate Robinson tallied a power-play score, her fourth lamplighter of the season at 17:46 off a helper from Laura Lankton.

Tina Ciraulo compiled two additional scores for the Huskies to solidify a commanding 7-3 triumph.

Senior Anik Côté and Jill Luebke each earned time between the pipes for the Beavers, as Côté finished with 15 saves to Luebke’s 11. Luebke took the loss for BSU, dropping her record to 3-8-1 this season.

With the loss, Bemidji State falls to 4-14-1 and 2-11-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Cloud State improves to 5-13-1 and 2-10-1 in WCHA action. The Huskies also have moved into sixth place in the WCHA standings, while the Beavers move into the seventh spot.
