BSU Defeated 2-1 by Minnesota State

BEMIDJI, MINN. - Minnesota State forward Devon Nichols scored two unanswered goals to lead the Mavericks to a 2-1 victory over Bemidji State this afternoon. Minnesota State is now 8-7-4 all-time against the Beavers and 5-0-0 overall this season.

BSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game when captain Jenny Schnickel skated the length of the ice and beat goaltender Shari Vogt to tally her first goal of the season.

The Mavericks responded with a power play goal at the 8:15 mark of the first period as freshman Devon Nichols notched her second goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.

Nichols lit the lamp again just 1:13 into the third period to pick up the game-winner for Minnesota State.

Maverick goaltender Shari Vogt finished with 31 saves, while Jill Luebke had 14 stops for the Beavers. Luebke now owns a record of 1-2-1 in the 2003-04 campaign.

With the loss the BSU is 1-3-1 overall and 0-3-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Beavers will look to salvage a split with Minnesota State tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
