Bemidji State releases 2011-12 women's hockey schedule

Bemidji State University head women’s hockey coach Steve Sertich announced the schedule for the upcoming 2011-12 season Friday afternoon. Bemidji State’s schedule boasts seven nonconference meetings and 28 Western Collegiate Hockey Association games. The 2011-12 slate features 16 games at Sanford Center including 14 contests within the WCHA, which remains the nation’s premier women’s hockey conference having accounted for every NCAA Division I women’s hockey championship in the sport’s 11-year NCAA history.


Bemidji State remains in good academic standing with NCAA

The Bemidji State University men’s and women’s ice hockey teams have again met the Academic Progress Rate (APR) standards set fourth by the NCAA. These scores provide performance benchmarks for all NCAA Division I programs under the Association’s standards for academic progress and performance beginning with data from the 2006-07 and extending through the 2009-10 academic year.


BSU hockey Select-A-Seat Night/pre-priced surplus sale set for June 1

June 1, Sanford Center will be open from 5-8 p.m. providing potential season-ticket holders an opportunity to view which seat locations are available for the upcoming season, to stock up on BSU gear at the Beaver Dam Store and to get a behind-the-scenes look around Sanford Center--one of the premier venues in collegiate hockey. In addition, BSU is holding a pre-priced surplus sale in the south concourse.


Tomcikova garners MVP honors at 2011 Womens World Championship

Bemidji State University women’s hockey junior goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova (Bratislava, Slovakia) made a total of 237 saves in just five games (47.4 saves per game) for the Slovakia women’s national team being named the tournament MVP of the Top Division at the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Championship. Tomcikova and team Slovakia captured a seventh place finish in the tournament.


Women’s hockey adds two to 2011-12 freshman class

The Bemidji State women’s hockey team announced the signing of Kristin Huber (Kelowna, British Columbia) and Natasha Kostenko (Fannystelle, Manitoba) to National Letters of Intent. With the signing of Huber and Kostenko the 2011-12 freshman class now grows to seven.


Women’s hockey hands out annual team awards

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team handed out its annual team awards during the end of the year banquet on Sunday at the Sanford Center. It was no surprise that one of the program’s best players in Erin Cody (Sr., Fwd., Roseville, Minn.) walked away with the most hardware.


Tomcikova and Cody garner postseason accolades

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team had two members named to all-conference teams this season as Zuzana Tomcikova (Jr., G., Bratislava, Slovakia) and Erin Cody (Sr., Fwd., Roseville, Minn.) were named to the All-WCHA Second and Third teams, respectively. BSU also boasted the most players named to the All-Academic Team with15 players earning the honor.


Sioux end BSU's season after claiming OT victory 3-2

In a series that never wanted to end, the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team and the No. 8 North Dakota Fighting Sioux played into overtime of game three in the first-round of WCHA playoffs. North Dakota would end the season for BSU after netting a goal 16 minutes into overtime Saturday night at Purpur Arena.

Cody nets 20th goal of season to help down Buckeyes 4-1

Senior Erin Cody (Fwd., Roseville, Minn.) became the first player in Bemidji State University women's hockey history to record two 20-goal seasons on Friday afternoon as her efforts helped the Beavers claim a 4-1 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Sanford Center. The win also marked the most conference wins (11) and home wins (9) in a single season.

The family of Bemidji State University women’s ice hockey forward Sadie Lundquist (So., Cloquet, Minn.) has owned and operated a small, but well-known, diner in Cloquet, Minn. for the past 50 years. The Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and host Guy Fieri will feature a recent visit to Gordy’s Hi-Hat during the episode entitled “You Called It” Monday at 9 p.m. CST.


Vichorek selected for U.S. Women’s Under-22

USA Hockey announced on Friday that Bemidji State University junior Montana Vichorek (Def., Moose Lake, Minn.) has been named to 2010 U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team that will participate in both the 2010 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival and the 2010 Under-22 Series. It will be Vichorek’s debut for Team USA, and will mark the second time a BSU women’s hockey player has suited up for Team USA.
