Tomcikova tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week
MADISON, Wis. – Junior goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova (Bratislava, Slovakia) was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association on Wednesday.

Returning to the ice after a tremendous sophomore season, Tomcikova lived up to her title of 2009-10 WCHA Co-Player of the Year while helping the visiting Beavers blank the Wayne State Warriors 3-0 in the season opener on Oct. 1.

Setting the tone early, Tomcikova’s first save of the game came off a Wayne State breakaway. The junior would go on to stop all 27 shots on goal in the game, including 12 in the third period. The shutout marked the ninth of her collegiate career.

Winning her eighth-career weekly honor, Tomcikova has now won more player of the weeks than any other Bemidji State women’s hockey player. The previous mark was set at seven by former goaltender Emily Brookshaw.
