Beavers add pair of goaltenders for 2012-13 season

The BSU women’s hockey team announced the addition of a pair of goaltenders for the 2012-13 season. The Beavers signed transfer Abby Ryplanski (G, Winnipeg, Manitoba) from Niagara University to a Financial Aid Agreement, while Alexane Rodrigue (G, Monkland, Ontario) inked a National Letter of Intent to play for Bemidji State.


Tomcikova and Ellisor named Bemidji State Student-Athletes of the Year

Bemidji State University’s Zuzana Tomcikova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and James Ellisor (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) were named as the 2011-12 Student-Athletes of the Year and Rachel Craig (Fr., MB, Wadena, Minn.) and Dermaine Crockrell (Jr., G, Mesa, Ariz.) earned recognition as 2011-12 Newcomers of the Year Thursday at Sanford Center as the University’s honored players and coaches as its annual Student-Athlete Appreciation Banquet.

NHL brother helps goaltender blaze path on and off the ice

BSU Women's Hockey picked sixth in WCHA Coaches' Poll

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team was picked sixth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday afternoon by the league office. Bemidji State received 20 points in the poll. Defending national champion University of Wisconsin was selected first by the WCHA coaches with 47 points including six first-place votes. The University of Minnesota received the other two first-place votes.

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team is coming off a historic season in 2010-11. The Beavers accomplished firsts last season including beating a No. 1 team for the first time in program history, recording the program’s first-ever win over University of Minnesota Duluth and snapping a 17-game losing streak to University of Minnesota on its way to a 14-17-4 (11-13-4-2 WCHA) mark and a fifth-place WCHA finish.

Fryklund named Bemidji State women’s hockey assistant coach

Bemidji State University Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb announced the hiring of Amber Fryklund as assistant coach of the BSU women’s hockey program. Fryklund, the program’s all-time leading scorer who tallied 122 points from 2000-03, returns to her alma mater after a successful stint as a high school hockey coach.

Bemidji State releases 2011-12 women's hockey schedule

Bemidji State University head women’s hockey coach Steve Sertich announced the schedule for the upcoming 2011-12 season Friday afternoon. Bemidji State’s schedule boasts seven nonconference meetings and 28 Western Collegiate Hockey Association games. The Bemidji State University men’s and women’s ice hockey teams have again met the Academic Progress Rate (APR) standards set fourth by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). Tomcikova garners MVP honors at 2011 Womens World Championship

Bemidji State University women’s hockey junior goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova (Bratislava, Slovakia) made a total of 237 saves in just five games (47.4 saves per game) for the Slovakia women’s national team being named the tournament MVP of the Top Division at the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Championship. Tomcikova and team Slovakia captured a seventh place finish in the tournament.


Women’s hockey adds two to 2011-12 freshman class

The Bemidji State women’s hockey team announced the signing of Kristin Huber (Kelowna, British Columbia) and Natasha Kostenko (Fannystelle, Manitoba) to National Letters of Intent. With the signing of Huber and Kostenko the 2011-12 freshman class now grows to seven.
