Vichorek selected to participate in USA Women's Hockey National Festival
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Bemidji State University women’s hockey senior captain Montana Vichorek (D, Moose Lake, Minn.) has been announced as one of 79 players selected to participate in the 2011 USA Women’s Hockey National Festival, which takes place August 10-20 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.

The Festival will serve as the selection camp for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Select Team that will compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation Eight Nations Tournament in Vierumäki, Finland, Aug. 24-31 and the 2011 U.S Women’s Under-18 Select Team that will take on Canada in a three-game series Aug. 18-21 in Rockland, Ont.

Among this year’s attendees are 19 of the 21 members of the U.S. Women’s National Team that captured the gold medal at the 2011 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

“We’re excited to be heading to the National Sports Center with 79 of the most talented players in the nation,” said Reagan Carey, director of women’s hockey for USA Hockey. “We’re proud of the success our women’s program has enjoyed, but we know we can become even better.”

Vichorek is slated to once again anchor Bemidji State’s blue line as she prepares for her final season as a member of Steve Sertich’s squad. Vichorek has accounted for 10 goals and 36 assists in her three-year career for the Beavers. She has led Bemidji State defensemen in scoring in each of her three seasons at BSU.

The Festival participants will be divided into four teams for daily practices and games at the Schwan Super Rink, part of the National Sports Center. Vichorek is a member of the blue squad.

USA Hockey intends to announce the roster for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Under-18 Select Team on Aug. 15 and the roster for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Select Team on Aug. 19.
