Tomcikova earns WCHA player of the week accolades
MADISON, Wis. -- Bemidji State University women’s hockey goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) was recognized as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Week after guiding BSU to an upset victory and a tie against No. 10 Providence College last weekend.

Tomcikova allowed only one goal on the weekend against the Friars. She boasted a .048 goals against average after two games and notched 54 saves. Tomcikova picked up her 15th career shutout Friday in a 0-0 tie with the Friars. She had 23 saves while keeping a blank slate for three periods and overtime during Friday’s contest. Saturday, she allowed a second-period goal to Providence’s Haley Frade but picked up the victory after stopping 31 shots. The win was Tomcikova’s 29th of her career and moves her within four victories of the BSU school record for goalies currently held by Bre Dedrickson (33).

The honor is the ninth of her career. Tomcikova was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week once last year, four times as a sophomore in 2009-10 and three times as a freshman in 2008-09.
