BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team lost to Robert Morris University 3-0 today at Sanford Center. The loss is the second straight for the Beavers dropping them to 1-2-1 on the season.
Robert Morris got the scoring started with a Brittany Howard goal at the 9:06 mark of the first frame. The goal was Howard’s second of the season.
The Colonials chipped in another goal on a penalty shot by Rebecca Vint that was awarded because of a tripping call on the Beavers.
The Colonials openeda 2-0 lead out shooting the Beavers 9-4 in the first period.
Robert Morris extended its lead to three with a Kristen Richards goal 7:43 into the second frame. Howard, who had a goal in the first period, assisted on the goal along with teammate Erin Staniewski.
The Bemidji State penalty kill stopped all five of RMU’s power-play opportunities.
Brittni Mowat (G, 5-7, Fr., L, Glenboro, Manitoba) had her fourth straight start in between the pipes for the Beavers and took the loss. Mowat had 25 saves. The freshman netminder’s record drops to 1-2-1 on the season.
Bemidji State (1-2-1) will return to action Friday at 2:07 p.m. versus Lindenwood University (0-5-1). The series will mark the second time the teams have played met this season, with Bemidji State winning the first series, 1-0-1, Sept. 27-28 in St. Peters, Mo.
