Three-goal third period propels BSU to 4-1 victory over Lindenwood

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team defeated Lindenwood University 4-1 Saturday at the Sanford Center. Hanna Moher (F, So, Milton Ontario) led the Beavers with two goals and Alex Citrowske (F, Jr., Savage, Minn.) posted two assists. The weekend sweep by the Beavers was the first since they swept St. Cloud State University Feb. 17-18, 2012.

LU struck first with a power-play goal from Katie Erickson at the 8:48 mark. The goal ended a streak of 10 consecutive penalty kills by the Beavers which spanned three games.

The Beavers struck back with a goal about a minute later. Freshman Lauren Miller (F, Brockville, Ontario) scored on LU goaltender Nicole Hensley for her first collegiate goal. Junior Alex Citrowske chipped in with her first assist of the season.

After stalling out at 1-1 for more than a period, the BSU attack got a spark while the Beavers were on the penalty-kill. BSU scored a pair of short-handed, unassisted goals in the span of 35 seconds. Moher netted the first at 6:18 and Kaitlyn Tougas (F, So., Thunder Bay, Ontario) posted the second. Moher added another goal at the 8:26 mark and Citrowske provided another assist.

Brittni Mowat (G, Fr., Glenboro, Manitoba) stopped 19 of 20 shots faced to earn her third win of the season. She is now 3-2-1. The Beavers outshot LU 39-20 for the game which continued the trend as they outshot the Lions in three out of the four meetings this season. (151-82)

Bemidji State will return action at home Oct. 25-26 against the current No. 1 team in the land, University of Minnesota. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. and 4:07, respectively.
