Moher named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

MADISON, Wis. – Bemidji State University forward Hanna Moher, a sophomore from Milton, Ontario, has been named the WCHA Women’s Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Beavers to a series sweep over Minnesota State University, Mankato Nov. 15-16.

Moher finished the weekend with two goals on six shots and earned a +2 plus/minus rating.

After scoring her club’s fourth goal in the third period and putting five shots on goal in Friday’s 4-1 victory over the Mavericks, Moher came back and scored a key goal Saturday. With BSU trailing 2-1 midway through the contest, she notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 12:08 of the second period to knot the score at 2-2, with the Beavers going on to secure a 3-2 victory and gain the series sweep. She was named the second star of the game.

Moher, who leads BSU in scoring with nine points (7g, 2a), is tied for fourth in the WCHA with seven goals in 14 games.

Moher is the second member of the BSU women’s hockey program to be recognized for the WCHA’s weekly award in 2013-14. Teammate Brittnni Mowat (Fr., Glenboro, Manitoba) was selected as the league’s defensive (Nov. 13) and rookie (Oct. 2) awards.

The league also announced University of Minnesota Duluth’s Tea Villilia as its Defensive Player of the Week, while Susanna Tapani of University of North Dakota earned the Rookie of the Week honor.

The Beavers, who have earned 10 points in league play the past two weekends, gained their first WCHA sweep since Oct. 21-22, 2012 versus St. Cloud State.

The Beavers, now 6-6-2 in 2013-14 and 3-4-1 in WCHA play, continue the conference schedule Nov. 22-23 when they travel to Minnesota Duluth for a WCHA two-game set. The first game will begin at 7:37 p.m. Friday with the series finale slated for a 6:07 p.m. start Saturday at Amsoil Arena.
