Bemidji State hosts Pursuit of Excellence Academy in exhibition contest

BEMIDJI, Minn.— The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team will host Pursuit of Excellence Academy in an exhibition contest Wednesday at 7 p.m. The exhibition tilt is the only exhibition the Beavers will play this season.

Bemidji State (8-5-1, 4-5-1 WCHA) comes into the week having won four of its last five games. With its 8-5-1 start, the Beavers are currently ranked No. 9 in this week’s Poll.

BSU is paced offensively by Kaitlyn Tougas who has 10 points this season (3g, 7a). Stephanie Anderson (4g, 4a) and Ivana Bilic (2g, 6a) also provided a spark with eight points each.

Sophomore Brittni Mowat leads BSU goaltenders with a 6-3-1 mark, 1.49 goals against average and .952 save percentage. Freshman Erin Deters has made four starts as well and has posted a 2-2-0 record, 1.51 goals against average and .948 save percentage.

The Pursuit of Excellence Academy is currently in its sixth season of competition. POE has produced over 15 national team members on four different countries. It has also produced over 40 NCAA Division I, Division III or CIS hockey players. This season POE has seven Division I hockey commitments

Things to Follow

  • Kristin Huber played for the Pursuit of Excellence Academy before coming to BSU. Huber tallied 23 goals and 13 assists in 29 games at POE.
  • POE defenseman Natalie Stanwood has inked a National Letter of Intent to play for the Beavers next season. Stanwood has four goals and eight assists in 24 games this season.
  • Bemidji State is 9-3-3 in exhibition games in program history.
