Beavers defeat Pursuit of Excellence Academy, 7-2

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) — The Bemidji State University women’s ice hockey team defeated the Pursuit of Excellence Academy in an exhibition contest Wednesday evening at Sanford Center, 7-2. Six different Beaver skaters tallied multiple points in the victory.

The Beavers lit the lamp twice in the opening period. Megan Lushanko got the scoring underway at the 7:10 mark, while Kristine Grenier added another at 18:58 to give Bemidji State a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. BSU outshot POE 11-7 in the first stanza.

POE cut Bemidji State’s lead in half 31 seconds into the second period with a goal by Sarah Potomak. Following Potomak’s goal, Bemidji State answered with three unanswered goals in the second frame. The first was a power-play goal by Alexis Joyce at 7:29 to extend its lead back to a pair. The Beavers tacked on another 40 seconds later with a goal by Kayleigh Chapman to make it 4-1. Lastly, Joyce tallied her second goal of the game at 14:48 to give the Beavers a four-goal lead over POE.

With a four-goal deficit going into the third period, POE cut BSU’s lead to three with a goal by Carla Goodwin at 7:46. Bemidji State would answer with two more goals to seal the game. The first was by Carley Esse at 11:35 and the second by Reilly Fawcett at 14:15.

Next up: The Beavers will return to league play Dec. 5-6 when it hosts rival Minnesota State University, Mankato.
