St. Cloud State salvages a split with a 3-0 victory over Bemidji State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (Herb Brooks National Hockey Center) — The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team fell to St. Cloud State University, 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 11-6-1 overall and 7-6-1 in conference play.

Neither team could get many quality chances in the first period as they combined for 15 shots on goal in the stanza. All the shots the two goaltenders faced, they stopped. Brittni Mowat made six saves, while SCSU goaltender Katie Fitzgerald stopped nine shots in the first.

St. Cloud State broke the tie at the 10:33 mark in the second period with a goal by Amanda Arbogast. Following the goal by Arbogast, BSU turned up the offensive pressure on Fitzgerald with nine shots on goal, but were unable to capitalize, as the score remained 1-0 heading into the second intermission.

SCSU added to its lead at the 10:17 mark of the third with a short-handed goal by Audrey Hanmer to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. It was the first short-handed goal BSU has allowed this season.

Down two goals with just over two minutes to play, BSU head coach Jim Scanlan pulled Mowat to gain an extra attacker. Unfortunately, SCSU netted an empty-net goal at 18:58 to seal a 3-0 victory.
