EDINA, Minn. – Bemidji State University defenseman Alexis Joyce has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week after leading the Beavers to a split in its series against St. Cloud State University, Dec. 12-13.
Joyce paced BSU’s freshmen with an assist, five shots on goal and seven blocked shots in BSU’s road series against the Huskies.
The Lakeville, Minn. native leads all WCHA freshmen defensemen with nine points (2g, 7a) and ranks third nationally with 48 blocked shots.
The honor is the second of the season for Joyce and sixth overall for the Beavers. Joyce, who earned the same honor Dec. 2, joins two-time Defensive Player of the Week honorees goaltender Brittni Mowat (Nov. 4, Nov. 18) and Ivana Bilic (Oct. 1, Dec. 9).
The Beavers (11-5-1, 7-6-1 WCHA) will close out the 2014 portion of their schedule this weekend at home with a series against the Ohio State University.
