EDINA, Minn. – Bemidji State University defenseman Emma Terres has been selected Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Rookie of the Week after aiding the BSU women’s hockey team to a series split at No. 3 University of Wisconsin Jan. 16-17.
Terres not only scored her first goal of the season in Friday’s 2-1 win over Wisconsin but her first lamp lighter also proved to be the game-winning goal. Terres also blocked six shots to aid BSU’s defense to hold the Badgers to three goals in two games.
The New Hope, Minn. native ranks third among BSU’s rookies with three points this season (1g, 2a).
The honor is the first for Terres’ career and eighth for the Beavers this season. She joins fellow freshman blueliner Alexis Joyce (Rookie of the Week, Dec. 2, Dec. 16), Brittni Mowat (Defensive Player of the Week, Nov. 4, Nov. 18), Ivana Bilic (Defensive Player of the Week, Oct. 1, Dec. 9) and Lauren Miller (Offensive Player of the Week, Jan. 7) as players that have taken home WCHA accolades this season.
The Beavers, now 14-11-1 overall and 9-10-1 in league play, will continue their eight-game road swing Jan. 24-25 as they travel to Grand Forks, N.D. to battle University of North Dakota. BSU swept North Dakota earlier this season in Bemidji, Minn. Both games are slated for a 2:07 p.m. start time from Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
