Bilic named to Canada's National Development Team

CALGARY – Bemidji State University senior defender Ivana Bilic has been selected to Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Development Team. Following a 10-day selection camp, Bilic was informed that she is one of 22 members of her home country that will face the United States Women’s Under-22 Select Team in a three-game series, Aug. 19-22 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Canada’s National Development Team will open the series versus USA at 5 p.m. CT Aug. 19. Friday, Aug. 21, the teams will again clash at 1:40 p.m. CT, before wrapping up the series with a 5 p.m. CT contest at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid.

Following this series, which will be streamed live on, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team’s coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their provincial, club and university teams during the 2015-16 season in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will compete at the 2016 Nations Cup in Germany in January, as well as possible invites to camps and events with Canada’s National Women’s Team.

“We are coming off a strong, 10-day camp where we had the opportunity to evaluate these players on and off the ice,” said Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada’s general manager of national women’s team programs. “As our programs continue to grow, our selection decisions are made more difficult. These series in Lake Placid will be another step for these players to demonstrate they belong with our teams this season.”

Bilic played in all 39 games for BSU in 2014-15 and led the nation with 147 blocked shots. She also paced Bemidji State’s defensemen with 23 points (5g-18a) and posted three multi-point games. Bilic’s 23 points ranked seventh among the WCHA’s top-scoring defensemen and 15th among blueliners nationally. The Coquitlam, British Columbia native was a two-time WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honoree and led the team with 18 assists.
