Women's Hockey names 2015-16 captains

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University women’s hockey head coach Jim Scanlan has announced that Hannah Moher will captain the Beavers for the upcoming season. Stephanie Anderson, Ivana Bilic, and Whitney Wivoda will serve as assistant captains.

Moher, a senior from Milton, Ontario, is a two-time WCHA Scholar Athlete and Academic All-WCHA member. In 102 career games as a Beaver, Moher has recorded 31 total points, with 17 goals and 14 assists. In 2014-15, Moher was tied for third on the team with eight goals and also posted a career-high points in a game with three when she had a goal and two assists at St. Cloud State Dec. 12.

An assistant captain in 2014-15, senior Stephanie Anderson was the leader in goals scored with 14, including nine in the second half of the season. Following her junior season, the North St. Paul native became the first player in program history to represent the United States in an international competition as she competed in the 2015 IIHF Women's Hockey World Championship in Malmo, Sweden. In 111 career games, Anderson has 38 total points scored.

The leader of the defensive corps, Ivana Bilic totaled 147 blocked shots in 2014-15 to lead the nation. A senior from Coquitlam, British Columbia has been the top scoring defender for the past two seasons with 39 career points in 95 games played. This summer, Bilic was selected to Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Development Team.

A senior from Fairbanks, Alaska, Wivoda is a three-time Academic All-WCHA member and a two-time WCHA scholar athlete. In 2014-15, Wivoda notched five goals and a career-high eight assists. BSU was also undefeated when Wivoda scored a goal. With 115 games played, Wivoda has the most experience on the 2015-16 roster.

The 2015-16 Beaver women’s hockey season marks the 16th campaign in the program’s history. In 2014-15, head coach Jim Scanlan led the Beavers to a program-record 21 victories, a program-record 13 conference wins and their second-ever appearance in the WCHA Final Faceoff. For his accomplishments, Scanlan earned WCHA coach of the year.  

The Beavers open their 2015-16 campaign Friday, September 25 against Robert Morris University at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.
