Huber scores twice to lead Beavers to 3-2 win over Bulldogs

DULUTH, Minn. – Senior Kristin Huber scored two power-play goals to help the No. 7 Bemidji State University women’s hockey team defeat the University of Minnesota Duluth, 3-2 Friday night. With the win, the Beavers snap a two-game losing skid and improve their record to 16-7-2 (11-7-1 WCHA).

Seven Beavers tallied a point in the game and were led by Huber and Ivana Bilic (2a) who each registered two points on the night. Freshman Melissa Hunt scored her first goal as a Beaver while Madison Hutchinson, Kaitlyn Tougas, Stephanie Anderson, and Bailey Wright each added assists.

Minnesota Duluth opened the scoring just 19 seconds into the first period when Lara Stadler beat goaltender Brittni Mowat for the early 1-0 lead.

The Beavers tied the game in the second period when Kristin Huber scored on the power play just 1:12 into the period. Hunt then responded two minutes later and beat goaltender Kayla Black to give Bemidji State the 2-1 lead.

Bemidji State extended its lead when Huber scored her second goal on the power play just 29 seconds into the third period to make it 3-1. Stadler scored her second of the game and made it 3-2 with 9:41 left to play to pull within one of the Beavers. But Mowat rebounded following the goal and made 13 saves in the final period to earn her 16th win of the season.

Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth will wrap-up their series tomorrow when they play at 4:07 p.m. from AMSOIL Arena.
