EDINA, Minn. – Bemidji State University forward Abby Halluska has been selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week after leading the Beavers to a non-conference series sweep over Rochester Institute of Technology, Dec. 9-10.
Halluska tied for the WCHA rookie lead with three points, tallying a goal and two assist in Bemidji State's sweep-clinching, 5-1 road win Saturday at RIT. The freshman from Delano, Minn. assisted on the Beavers' first goal of the game, helped set up their third strike, then put the game away with a power-play marker of her own in the third period. The two assists and three points marked a career high for Halluska, as the Beavers left New York with a pair of victories.
This is Halluska's first career WCHA weekly award.
In addition to Halluska, University of Wisconsin forward Emily Clark was named offensive player of the week and Minnesota State University, Mankato blueliner Megan Hinze earned the league's defensive player of the week honor.
The Beavers, now 8-11-1 overall and 4-11-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play, take just over a month off for winter break. BSU returns to action Jan. 12-13 when it travels to Columbus, Ohio to battle Ohio State University in a two-game league series.
