ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Bemidji State University redshirt senior goaltender Erin Deters earned her second consecutive shutout to help the Beavers (5-7-1, 3-5-0 WCHA) sweep St. Cloud State University, Saturday afternoon. Deters stopped all 18 shots by the Huskies (2-10-0, 1-7-0 WCHA) and all 38 in the series to earn her fifth career shutout and third of the season.
Deters now has five career shutouts and moves into fourth on BSU’s all-time career shutouts list behind Zuzana Tomcikova (18), Brittni Mowat (17) and Emily Brookshaw (6).
After failing to score in the first 39 minutes of yesterday’s game, the Beavers started the scoring early against the Huskies in game two. Senior Alexis Joyce tallied her first goal of the season 7:10 into the opening period and records her 62nd career point to move into third all-time on BSU’s career points list as a defenseman. The Beavers would add to their lead before the end of the period when sophomore Kiki Radke scored her second goal of the season while on a BSU power play at 17:14.
Bemidji State would be unable to add to their lead in the second period and most of the third but with goaltender Janine Alder pulled for the extra attacker, senior Emma Terres scored the empty net goal with four seconds remaining for her team-leading fourth goal of the year.
No Beaver skater recorded multiple points in the game but Mak Langei, Reilly Fawcett, Bailey Wright and Haley Mack each tallied an assist.
Deters improves her record to 3-4-1 on the season and of her three wins, all three have been shutouts for the Sartell, Minn., native. Janine Alder got the nod in net for the second consecutive game for the Huskies and stopped 24-of-26 shots by the Beavers to fall to 1-6-0.
Bemidji State will try to continue its four-game winning streak next weekend when they host No. 5 Ohio State University for a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.
