Lakers sink Beavers with third period goal, 2-1

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Brooke Hartwick of Mercyhurst University broke a 1-1 tie at the 15:17 mark of the third period, to tilt the game in the Lakers' direction and split the non-conference series with Bemidji State University, Wednesday afternoon ending the Beavers’ six-game winning streak

Kiki Radke gave the Beavers a first-period lead with her third goal of the season at 15:13 of the opening period, but the Lakers scored unanswered goals in the second and third periods to take the game, 2-1.

Summer-Rae Dobson scored the game-tying goal three minutes into the second period and Hartwick tallied the game-winning goal with just 5:17 to play in the final period for the 2-1 victory for the Lakers. Just before Hartwick’s goal however, the Beavers looked to take a 2-1 lead when Radke bounced the puck off the back of goaltender Sarah McDonnell and in but after a review the goal was disallowed for goaltender interference.

Bemidji State pulled its goalie with 2:28 remaining in the frame and totaled six shots and hit the post twice before the final buzzer sounded with the Lakers still on top, 2-1.

McDonnell earned her fourth win of the season by stopping 32-of-33 shots to improve to 4-6-2 this season. Senior goaltender Erin Deters made 16-of-18 saves and falls to 3-7-2.
