BEMIDJI, Minn. – Emily Bergland of the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team was selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Beavers (11-11-2, 6-7-1-1 WCHA) to a non-conference series split with Mercyhurst University.
It’s the junior’s second career weekly honor from the league and first of the 2017-18 season.
The Thief River Falls, Minn., native led the Beavers by posting her first two-goal game of the season by scoring both goals in a 2-1 overtime victory against the Lakers, Jan. 2. Bergland’s first tally came as the game-tying goal midway through the second period and followed with the game-winning goal 2:15 into overtime. Bergland finished the week by posting six shots on goal and was +1 on the ice. The junior is fourth on the team with 14 points and has tallied seven goals for third.
Joining Bergland, was Emma Polusny and Laura Kluge from St. Cloud State University tabbed as the defensive and rookie of the week, respectively.
Bergland and the BSU women’s hockey team get back into conference action this weekend by traveling to University of Minnesota Duluth for the season series finale. The Beavers and Bulldogs will meet at AMSOIL Arena Friday-Saturday with Saturday’s matchup televised on Fox Sports North.
