BEMIDJI, Minn. – Freshman Kerigan Dowhy earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week honors after leading the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team to a 2-1 upset win over No. 6 Ohio State University.
It’s the first WCHA award for the freshman from The Pas, Manitoba and 11th weekly award for the Beavers in 2017-18.
Dowhy earns the honor after stopping 28-of-29 shots by the Buckeyes including 15 in the game’s final period in her only start of the weekend to lead BSU to a split with OSU. She posted a 1.00 goals against average and .966 save percentage over the weekend to finish second in the league. Dowhy has posted an undefeated 3-0-1 record in five appearances during her freshman campaign and boasts a 1.63 GAA and .946 save percentage.
Dowhy and the Beaver women’s hockey team begins postseason play this weekend (Feb. 23-25) and travels to University of Minnesota Duluth for a best-of-three series with the Bulldogs at AMSOIL Arena in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs.
