BEMIDJI, Minn. – Freshman Kerigan Dowhy of the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team has been recognized by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association as the Rookie of the Week, Feb. 27. Dowhy, a native of The Pas, Manitoba, led the Beavers (16-18-3) to series win over University of Minnesota Duluth in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs.
It is the second week in a row that Dowhy has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week and second of her career.
Dowhy posted a 1.68 goals against average against the Bulldogs and .932 save percentage after stopping 68-of-73 shots by UMD. She began the series with a 2-1 victory after stopping 29-of-30 shots in the game. The Beavers fell 4-1 in game two but Dowhy responded with her first career shutout and a 24-save performance to send BSU to its third WCHA Final Faceoff appearance.
In eight games this season, Dowhy has posted a 1.65 goals against average and .941 save percentage while going 5-1-1.
Dowhy and rest of the Beaver squad travel to Minneapolis, Minn., this weekend to take part in the WCHA Final Faceoff. The Beavers are set to take on No. 1 University of Wisconsin Saturday, March 3 at Ridder Arena with the winner advancing to the championship game, Sunday. The Beavers and Badgers are scheduled for a 2:07 p.m. puck drop.
