BEMIDJI, Minn. – Freshman goaltender Kerigan Dowhy has been tabbed the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Month for February. Dowhy led the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team by going 3-1-0 during the month with wins over No. 6 Ohio State University and University of Minnesota Duluth.
The rookie from The Pas, Manitoba was selected as the WCHA Rookie of the Week Feb. 20 and 27 and earns her first career monthly award.
Dowhy posted the league’s second best save percentage (.941) during the month and third best goals against average (1.51). She began February with a 28-save, 2-1 win over No. 6 Ohio State and led BSU to a playoff series win over Minnesota Duluth. Dowhy stopped 29-of-30 shots to win game one of the series and followed with her first career shutout in game three, a 24-save performance, to send the Beavers to the program’s third WCHA Final Faceoff.
Bemidji State travels to Minneapolis this weekend to face top-ranked University of Wisconsin in the WCHA Final Faceoff semifinal Saturday, March 3. The Beavers and Badgers are scheduled for a 2:07 p.m. puck drop at Ridder Arena with the winner advancing to the championship game.
