BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University women’s hockey head coach Jim Scanlan announced Emma Terres, Summer Thibodeau and Erin Deters will serve as the program’s captains and assistant captain during the 2017-18 season.
Terres and Thibodeau will each wear the “C” serving as the team’s co-captains while Deters will wear the “A” as an assistant captain.
“We are fortunate to have six very experienced seniors who are all tremendous leaders,” said Scanlan. “Our culture is driven by our senior group and each of these players have all been great role models and mentors for their younger teammates over their career here at Bemidji State. The three who will be wearing a letter on their jersey are great representatives of our team, our University and the community of Bemidji”.
Terres, a native of New Hope, Minn., has appeared in 108 games during her three seasons at Bemidji State, missing just two games. She has compiled 10 goals and 16 assists (26pts) after setting career-highs in goals (6) and assists (8) last season. Terres has also been productive on the power play scoring five power-play goals throughout her career, the most of any senior. Terres is a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team selection and was named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete in 2016-17.
Thibodeau, a native of Maple Grove, Minn., has appeared in 96 games during her career at Bemidji State and has tallied 10 goals and 11 assists. Thibodeau also set career-highs in goals (4) and assists (5) a season ago and has been a key member of apenalty-kill unit that was fifth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (.850) in 2016-17. Thibodeau is a two-time WCHA All-Academic and WCHA Scholar Athlete selection.
Deters, a native of Sartell, Minn., has appeared in 11 games back-stopping the Beavers’ defense during her career after spending the past three seasons as the back-up to all-American goaltender Brittni Mowat. She has compiled a 3-5-1 record in three seasons and has spent 586 minutes in net. Last season, she appeared in two games including a 3-0, 28-save shutout against Syracuse University, October 1. She has two career shutouts and has totaled a 2.45 goals against average and .923 save percentage. The redshirt senior is a three-time WCHA All-Academic Team selection.
Terres, Thibodeau and Deters along with the entire Beaver squad open the 2017-18 with an exhibition against the Korean National Women’s Team on September 20 at Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. BSU will then officially kick off the season with a home series against Syracuse, Sept. 29-30.
