BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University redshirt sophomore Lauren Bench was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts to help the Beavers sweep St. Cloud State University this past weekend.
Bench, a native of Eagan, Minn., began the weekend by stopping 11-of-11 shots by the Huskies in a 3-0 win in game one. She then posted a 26-save shutout in game two as the Beavers earned the series sweep with a 2-0 victory. Bench was the only league goaltender to not allow a goal over the weekend and held the Huskies scoreless over 119:50 consecutive minutes, the eighth longest shutout streak in BSU history.
Bench has posted three shutouts this season and is tied for fourth on BSU’s all-time career shutouts list with five.
This marks the second time in her career she has earned the league’s goaltender of the week award after earning the accolade once last season.
Bench leads the Beavers with a 2.38 goals against average and .905 save percentage in eight games and has posted a 2-5-1 record. The Beavers play one last road series before the Holiday Break and travel to Erie, Pa., this weekend for a non-conference series with Mercyhurst college.
