COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Bemidji State University women’s hockey juniors Clair DeGeorge and Mak Langei have been invited to represent the United States of America as participants of the 2019 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival, announced today by USA Hockey. The festival will take place Aug. 5-13 at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
A forward, DeGeorge played in all 36 games for Bemidji State as a sophomore and led the team in scoring with a total of 22 points (9g-13a). She was also atop the team’s game-winning goals (3) and assists (13) lists. In addition, the 2017-18 Third-Team All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association selection, was fourth on the team with 83 shots on goal. And tied for fourth in power-play scoring (1g-1a).
A year ago, DeGeorge was named to USA Hockey’s Under-22 roster for its series versus Canada, August 16-19. She was also a member of the 2016 Under-18 Team and participated in the 2016 USA Women’s Hockey National Festival.
Langei, a 2018 Third-Team all WCHA pick, played defense for the Beavers in all 36 games as a sophomore. She registered 11 points on three goals and eight assists to lead all BSU defenders. She finished second on the team and fourth in the WCHA with 74 blocked shots and fifth on the team with eight assists, while she tied for fourth with 16 penalty minutes.
Prior to her time at BSU, Langei won an IIHF World Championship gold medal as a member of the USA Hockey Under-18 team.
The BSU duo is among a list of 110 women ranging from multiple-time Olympians to the rising stars in the game at the 18U level.
“We’re excited to bring together this elite group of athletes to train, compete and ultimately help make each other better,” said Katie Million, director of women’s national teams for USA Hockey. “The Festival really showcases the tremendous efforts of those in our grassroots programs across the country as these players have now emerged from their time as youth players to some of the very best our many programs have produced.”
Along with serving as a training camp for top-level players, the camp will also be utilized to choose both U18 and U22 Select Teams to compete against Canada in the annual U18 and U22 Series. This year's competition, a best-of-three series at each level, will take place at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Aug. 14-17.
