Beavers extend win streak to five with 4-1 victory over Huskies

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team extended its win streak to five games Friday afternoon after earning a 4-1 victory over St. Cloud State University in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action. The Beavers (8-8-1, 5-6-0 WCHA) are one win shy of tying a program record of six set during the 2017-18 season.

Seniors Kiki Radke (1g-1a), Abby Halluska (0g-2a) and Briana Jorde (0g-2a) each totaled two points to lead the Beavers while Lydia Passolt (GWG) and Kara Werth scored goals for the Beavers.

Redshirt junior Lauren Bench made 18-of-19 saves for the Beavers and improves her season record to 6-6-0.

Junior Paige Beebe started the scoring for the Beavers when she sniped the puck over the glove of Emma Polusny for her fifth goal of the season at 8:53 of the opening period. However, the Huskies responded quick when Klara Hymlarova shot the puck through traffic that beat Lauren Bench over her shoulder just 13 seconds after the Beavers’ goal. The Beavers responded to retake the lead when junior Lydia Passolt deflected a Briana Jorde shot that went five hole just 2:38 after the Huskies’ goal. Bemidji State ended the period with the one-goal lead and held a 14-6 shot advantage.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second period but just 23 seconds into the final period, Kiki Radke netted her fourth goal of the season to extend her point streak to four games to give the Beavers a two-goal lead. The Beavers extended their lead to three when junior Kara Werth scored her first goal of the season off a shot from the point at 11:47 of the period. Bemidji State finished the game with the 4-1 victory and held a 40-19 advantage on the shot chart, the Beavers’ third highest shot total of the season.

Bemidji State was held empty on all three of its power-play chances in the game while its penalty kill held the Huskies scoreless on both of their chances.

Bemidji State will attempt for its sixth consecutive win tomorrow afternoon when the two teams battle in the series finale scheduled for a 2:07 p.m.
