BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University women’s soccer team will open its season Sept. 8
when it travels to Duluth, Minn. to take the field against the St. Scholastica Saints. The Beavers come
into the game with a 3-3 all-time mark versus the Saints, winning their last contest 3-0 (9-9-01).
In the last meeting with the Saints, Amanda Miller recorded a goal and an assist as Bemidji State rolled
to its second victory of the season. Entering 2002 as one of leaders for the young BSU team, she was
recently selected to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason “Players to Watch” list.
Junior goaltender Nicole Dalka joined Miller on the list. Dalka started all 17 games in the net for the
Beavers last season and was an honorable mention to the 2001 All-NSIC team.
New BSU Head Coach Jim Stone stated that he will be using this first game as a measuring stick for the
rest of the season. “It is an evaluation time for us. We haven’t had any scrimmages yet so it is a chance
for us to see where we are, what we need to work on and where we need to go.”
The game marks the debut for ten BSU players. “It will be fun for Oliver and I to see these girls in a
game situation because we have some talented athletes,” said Stone.
The Beaver’s are coming off a season under coach Jeff Mitchell where they were 4-12-1 overall and 1-
7-1 in the NSIC.
