BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State soccer team fell 2-1 to the Golden Bears of Concordia this afternoon in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match in St. Paul, Minn.

The Golden Bears got on the board first in the 23rd minute when Angie Rockney picked up her fifth goal of the season to give Concordia a 1-0 lead.

The Beavers answered with a tally of their own in the 40th minute when sophomore Lindsey Natwick beat goalkeeper Kara Gamboni off a free kick to even the score at 1-1. Freshmen Tegan Moehn added to her point total on the season with an assist on the goal.

The Golden Bears then scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 32 seconds left in the first half when Lindsay Hartleben beat goalkeeper Kari Torgerson to give Concordia a 2-1 lead at half time.

BSU coach Jim Stone had mixed feelings about his team’s first half performance.

“We played an even game and they scored one really nice goal and then we had a let down at the end of the first half,” Stone said.

The Beavers came out strong in the second half and had several solid scoring chances, but in the end the Golden Bears would finish the match with a 2-1 victory.

Stone believes that BSU can build upon today’s performance.

“We are still a very young team and are really struggling to get the ball in the net, “Stone said, “Hopefully we can try to make the best of the situation and improve from here.”

Freshmen Kari Torgerson ended the day with 10 saves in the net for the Beavers.

BSU is now 0-2 in NSIC play and 1-8-1 overall. The Beavers will be in action again Saturday, Oct. 4, and Sunday, Oct. 5. BSU will celebrate Homecoming with NSIC matches against Northern State and Winona State. Game time is set for 1 p.m., on both days at the BSU Soccer Field.
