FAYETTE, Iowa (Pattison Field) – Upper Iowa University scored a pair of second half goals Sunday to hand the Bemidji State University soccer team its fifth loss of the season, 2-1.
After a scoreless first half of play, the Peacocks battled though windy, cool conditions to take a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute of play.
Bemidji State would answer less than four minutes later when senior Tiffany VanHaaften (M, Chaska, Minn.) found Sarah Stram (F, Fr., Elk Grove Village, Ill.) with a pass. Stram scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season over the head of the UIU goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Emanuel, to knot the score at 1-1.
In the 72nd minute, the Peacocks got the break they needed. A Corinne Wronski corner kick found Jess Dickhaus. Dickhaus hit the post and then Lauren Rohrmeier deposited the rebound into the back of the net.
The Beavers would put two shots on goal during the final 18 minutes of play, but Emanuel stopped each to preserve the win for Upper Iowa.
Bemidji State, now 9-5 overall and 6-5 in NSIC play, returns home to Chet Anderson Stadium for a pair of league matchups Oct. 25-26. The Beavers will host the University of Mary at 11 a.m. Saturday, before wrapping up the weekend of play with a 1 p.m. contest versus Minot State University.
