Bemidji State edges Minot State in overtime

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Jessie Voeller (F, Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored in the 94th minute to lift the Bemidji State University soccer team a 2-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over Minot State University Sunday at Chet Anderson Stadium.

BSU never led in the match. Minot State took advantage of a BSU miscue in front of the goal to take a 1-0 lead during the 12th minute of play. BSU trailed for the next 62 minutes, but a Christine Szurek (F, Fr., Andover, Minn.) goal in the 74th minute tied the game and forced overtime.

After a pair of Mary O'Brien (F, Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) near misses down the stretch, the Beavers gained control of the ball near midfield four minutes into the extra frame to gain their 11th win of 2013. Sarah Stram (F, Fr., Elk Grove Village, Ill.) played the ball to O'Brien who got the MSU goaltender to commit and crossed the ball to Voeller for a game-wining tap into the virtually empty net.

O'Brien set up each of the Beavers' goals, posting her second consecutive multi-point match and finish the weekend with two goals and two assists.

Sonja Barr (GK, Jr., Duluth, Minn.) turned aside nine MSU shots in the game, improving to 8-4-0 after the victory.

The Beavers, now 11-5-0 overall and 8-5-0 in NSIC play, remain home to host the University of Minnesota Duluth Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. The NSIC matchup will serve as the Beavers' last regular-season home match of the 2013 season.
