BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University soccer team wraps up the 2013 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season by hosting University of Minnesota Duluth Friday and traveling to St. Cloud State University Sunday.
Last time out
Mary O’Brien (F, Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) scored twice and put up two assists this weekend earning her six points and Maria McLeod (M, Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) earned three assists to help the Beavers get the home stand sweep on Oct. 26 and 27. The Beavers won 5-0 on Saturday against University of Mary, and also won in an overtime nail bitter to Minot State University 2-1 on Sunday. Sonja Barr (GK, Jr., Duluth, Minn.) made both starts this weekend saving a combined 12 shots and posting a shut out helping the Beavers get two key victories. The Beavers move to 11-5 on the season and 8-5 in NSIC play.
Scouting University of Minnesota Duluth
University of Minnesota Duluth is 12-3 on the season. The Bulldogs season has been great and they look to build to that this weekend. Minnesota Duluth are led by Maureen Stormont who has 12 goals and four assists giving her 28 points on the season making her a vital part of the Bulldogs offense. Dani Potter has also been a vital contributor on offense as well as she has 10 goals and seven assists giving her 27 points on the season.
Bemidji State and University of Minnesota Duluth have met 17 times prior to Friday’s match. The Bulldogs have dominated this series with a record of 14-2-3, and Bemidji State hasn’t won since 2008. The Beavers last win in the series came by a 2-1 (ot) score August 31, 2008.
Scouting St. Cloud State University
St. Cloud State University is 8-7-1 on the season. They are 10th in the NSIC coming into the weekend. The Huskies are led by Kara Dahmen who has three goals and eight assists on the season. St. Cloud State offense is also lead by Michelle Cornell who has five goals earning her 10 points on the season.
Bemidji State and St. Cloud State have met 12 times prior to Sunday’s match. The Huskies have a slight edge holding the series record of 6-5-1. The Beavers have won the last three meetings and their last win came October 26, 2012.
What to watch for
McLeod tied the school record with three assists in a game this past weekend.
O’Brien has jumped to seventh all time in points for Bemidji as she has a total of 48 in her career.
Barr has is tied for second in shut outs in a career, she has 10 total in her career.
The Beavers look to continue to move the ball around as they lead their opponents in assists, 31-13.
The Beavers will play one home game and one away game in a pair of NSIC conference games against University of Minnesota Duluth November 1 and St. Cloud State University November 3.
