MANKATO, Minn. – Bemidji State University junior forward Rachael Norton was named to the 2017 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Tournament team Sunday.
The Mounds View, Minn. native was one of 11 players named to the team and was the only honoree that didn’t participate in the championship match. Minnesota State University, Mankato midfielder Alesha Duccini headlined the group as the tournament’s most valuable player.
The league’s leading scorer, Norton continued her torrid goal-scoring pace as the postseason got underway. She netted two goals in the Beavers’ quarterfinal victory over Winona State University, Nov. 1, which included the game-winning goal. In two postseason matches, Norton averaged four shots and a goal in nearly 83 minutes per game.
It is the first award of its kind for Norton and marks BSU’s first all-tournament team member since Ashlee Ellefsen earned the same recognition in 2010.
Bemidji State (15-1-3) was eliminated from the NSIC Tournament by Augustana University, 1-0, Nov. 3. BSU now awaits its NCAA postseason fate. The No. 4 seed in the most recent NCAA Central Region Poll, BSU still has an opportunity to receive a bid into the six-team NCAA Central Regional Tournament. The NCAA Tournament selection show will take place at 5 p.m. Nov. 6 on NCAA.com.
