BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Raquel Thelen scored her second goal of the season in the 47th minute and that was all the Bemidji State University soccer team would need Sunday as goalkeeper Anna Fobbe made four stops to lead Bemidji State to a 1-0 victory over Minot State University.
The victory was BSU's seventh straight--marking a program record for wins to open a season, surpassing the 2008 and 2010 season's six-win streaks.
Locked in a 0-0 stalemate through the first half, Dani Nelson opened the second half by dribbling the ball down the goal line and firing a crossing pass into traffic in front of the goal. The ball ended up on the foot of Thelen who drilled a shot from the top of the box in the 47th minute. Her second goal of the season stood as the game-winner as Fobbe and the BSU defense clamped down on Minot State. BSU surrendered only four shots the entire second half.
Fobbe posted her second shut out of the seasonand improved to 4-0-0 with the win.
The Beavers, who improved to 7-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in NSIC play, continue league play Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 as it travels to St. Paul, Minn. Friday for a 7 p.m. match up with Concordia University-St. Paul. Sunday the team changes location to Mankato, Minn. where it will battle Minnesota State University, Mankato in a 1 p.m. match.
