Bemidji State Soccer makes its debut in national poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Bemidji State University soccer team has been ranked among the top 25 nationally for the first time in program history. After remaining unbeaten through the first 11 matches of their season (10-0-1) and holding down a portion of the top spot in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings (8-0-1), coaches from across the country have slotted BSU 22nd in the Oct. 10 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women’s Poll.

Bemidji State is one of eight teams in the national poll that remain unbeaten. Central Missouri University tops the ranking at 12-0-0 on the season.

The Beavers join No. 13 Minnesota State University, Mankato as NSIC representatives in poll.

In addition, to the Beavers pulling down votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, BSU owns the No. 7 spot in the Massey Ratings College Soccer Poll and are 12th in Hero Sports D2 national rankings.

Regionally, the Beavers also used a 2-0-0 weekend versus Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead to remain among the top six in the NCAA Division II Central Region for the third consecutive week coming in at No. 3, up three spots from the previous two weeks. The regional polls determine the national tournament seeding with each of the eight regions region advancing its top eight teams.

The Beavers have never participated in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Bemidji State remains home for the next week as they host Wayne State College Saturday and Augustana University Sunday in NSIC action.  The opening kick for each match is set for 1 p.m. at Chet Anderson Stadium.

Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
