Bemidji State unbeaten streak extended to 13 after 1-1 draw with Augustana

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Bemidji State University's Rachael Norton scored her 10th goal of the season and Catherine Arneson piled up seven saves, but Augustana University capitalized on a free kick in the 83rd minute to tie the match, 1-1, and the teams were unable to break the tie during two 10-minute overtime periods.

The No. 22 Beavers extended their unbeaten streak to a record 13 matches with the draw.

The Beavers' only goal of the match came in the 25th minute when Norton took advantage of a loose ball on the goal line and tto increase her team lead in goals scored. Allyson Smith was credited with an assist after ripping a shot off the goalkeeper’s hands. It was her team-high seventh helper of 2017-18.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of BSU to halftime and nearly 38 minutes into the second half, but a BSU foul would set up a Vikings' penalty kick. Rebekah Thoresen converted the attempt to tie the game in the 83rd minute.

The Beavers pressed in the final minutes of regulation and controlled play for large portions of the two 10-minute overtime periods. In the final moments of the match, Dani Nelson had a free kick attempt that sailed just over the crossbar.

The Beavers (11-0-2; 9-0-2 NSIC) hit the road this weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match ups. BSU will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for an 11 a.m. tilt at the University of Sioux Falls Saturday before wrapping up the weekend of play in Marshall, Minn. for a 1 p.m. match at Southwest Minnesota State University.
