Smith pulls in NSIC Offensive Player of the Week award

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Bemidji State University forward Allyson Smith has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week. This marks the first weekly individual award for the sophomore’s career and the third straight week the Beavers have had an individual recognized by the league.

Smith led the Beavers to the 2-0-0 weekend of NSIC play netting three of the Beavers’ seven goals. She recorded the second multi-goal match of her season in a 5-1 victory Upper Iowa University Friday before getting the Beavers on the board in a 2-0 win at Winona State University Sunday. She cast the deciding goal in each match and now leads the team with three game-winning goals. In all, she played 112 of 180 minutes while logging eight shots and five shots on goal.

The sophomore is fifth in the league in points (12 pts) and goals (5) and leads the NSIC in game-winners (3).

Smith was joined by Augustana University defender, Rebekah Thoresen, who was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week and goalkeeper, Claudia Pueschner, who earned Goalkeeper of the Week laurels.

The Beavers, now 8-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in league play, climbed to a program all-time best No. 12 in last week’s United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II poll. The Beavers return home this week for a pair of NSIC matches. BSU will host University of Sioux Falls at 3 p.m. Friday before a 1 p.m. match up with Southwest Minnesota State Sunday. Both matches will be played at BSU’s Chet Anderson Stadium.
