2/20/2010 - WOMEN'S TENNIS Bemidji State picks up first win of 2010 tennis season

BEMIDJI, Minn.  (Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center) The Bemidji State University tennis team used four singles victories to come from behind and earn its first team win of 2010, topping Northern State University 5-4 Saturday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play at BSU’s Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center.  

Trailing 2-1 after the pair of Miranda Milless (So., Motley, Minn.) and Brittney Greenwaldt (So., Morris, Minn.) scored the Beavers’ only doubles win, 8-2, over Northern State’s No. 3 doubles team of Adelaide Mounga and Amanda Lee, the Beavers rattled off singles wins at the No. 2, 4, 5 and 6 spots to secure the win.

BSU newcomer Lindsey Luberda (Sr., Champlin, Minn.) dropped NSU’s No. 2 singles player in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) to get the Beavers out of the blocks.  BSU’s No. 4 player Kelli Christiansen (So., Bemidji, Minn.), posted a 7-5 victory in the first set, but after falling to Megan Gilbraith in the second set 6-2,  earned a tie-break win 12-10 to gain a much-needed point for BSU.  At the final two singles positions, Milless and Katherine Wolak (Jr., Geneseo, Ill.) posted straight sets wins over Mounga and Lee of NSU 6-2, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

The Beavers continue play tomorrow when they host University of Minnesota Duluth.  The match is schedule for a 2 p.m. start at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center.
