3/27/2010 - WOMEN'S TENNIS Bemidji State sweeps Minnesota-Morris for nonconference win

SARTELL, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University tennis team earned wins at all six singles spots and in each of three doubles matches to earn a 9-0 nonconference victory over University of Minnesota-Morris Saturday at Gold’s Gym in Sartell, Minn.  The win is the Beavers’ third of the season and stands as their second sweep of 2010.

The Beavers opened the neutral-site match winning at all three doubles positions, including a 8-0 victory for Cheyanne Maki (Sr., Watford City, N.D.) and Miranda Milless (So., Motley, Minn.) over UMM’s Rebecca Hanson and Jodie Roy at the third doubles spot, to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.

Bemidji State kept the ball rolling in singles competition.  Each of BSU’s singles players garnered a team point to complete the 9-0 win earning straight-set victories from Farrah Steinke (Sr., Crosby, Minn.) at No. 1, 6-4, 6-4, all the way down the line up to Katherine Wolak’s (Jr., Geneseo, Ill.) 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 singles spot.

The Beavers, who improved 3-7 overall, wrap up a busy weekend of play traveling to Duluth, Minn. to battle University of Minnesota Duluth in a rare nonconference match up.  The match is set for an 8 a.m. start at Arrowhead Tennis Center.
