4/2/2010 - WOMEN'S TENNIS Mustangs spoil Senior Day, 7-2

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center) -- Bemidji State University senior Cheyanne Maki (Watford City, N.D.) and doubles partner Miranda Milless (So., Motley, Minn.) scored one of the Beavers’ two team points today as BSU was defeated by NSIC foe Southwest Minnesota State University, 7-2, on Senior Day at the Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center.

Bemidji State trailed the Mustangs, 2-1, at the completion of doubles play.  Maki and Milless salvaged the lone BSU point at No. 3 doubles as they topped SMSU’s Amy Daniels and Angie Wiegmann, 8-6.  The win marked the second straight for the duo, while they improved to 5-5 on the season in doubles play.

Trailing by just one point at the conclusion of doubles action, the Beavers let the match slip away as singles play got underway.  BSU dropped the first five solo matches in straight sets, before Milless rallied for a team singles point in the No. 6 spot.  Milless posted her third singles victory of the season defeating Katie Carlson of Southwest Minnesota State, 7-5, 6-2.  The point was too, little too as the Mustangs already had the league match firmly within their grip, 7-2.

The Beavers, now 3-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play, April 9 when they travel to Fargo, N.D. to battle Minnesota State University, Moorhead in a NSIC match up.  Just the third "road" contest of the season for the BSU, the match is set for Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
