BSU tennis seeks first NSIC win Saturday

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Bemidji State University tennis team gears up for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches in Sartell, Minn. Saturday. The Beavers will compete in a neutral site match against Southwest Minnesota State University at 1 p.m. At 4:30 p.m. BSU will go up against, the hosting team, St. Cloud State University.

A match victory with weekend would give the new-look BSU team and second-year head coach Mark Fodness its first conference win since April 14, 2012 versus Southwest Minnesota State (6-3).

In their opening weekend of the 2014 season, the Beavers doubled their win total from a year ago (1-13). In a match against Bethany Lutheran College Saturday, BSU won 9-0. The next day Bemidji State split its matches against Winona State University and St. Mary’s University. The Beavers fell in their NSIC opener to WSU 8-1 but beat St. Mary’s 5-4.

Bemidji State hosts Upper Iowa University and University of Minnesota Duluth in its home-opening weekend Feb. 15-16.
