On Dec. 8, 2010 Bemidji State University Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced the hiring of Beth Campus as head coach of the BSU tennis program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Beth Campus to our tennis program,” Goeb said.  “She comes in with Division I experience at Ball State University, as a private instructor and a clinician at tennis camps.  We are also very excited that she is already at Bemidji State, which makes her more available as a resource for the student-athletes.

“We are looking forward to her getting the tennis season up and running.”

Campus comes to BSU with an extensive tennis background both as a player and as an instructor.  From 2003-2005, she was a member of the Ball State University NCAA Division I women’s tennis team.  While with the team she earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors and was recognized as an ITA All-America Scholar Athlete in 2004, a season during which the Cardinals posted an 11-9 overall record and finished 5-4 in MAC play.

After the close of her collegiate career, she has served as an instructor at the City of Elgin Tennis Camps during the summers of 2008 and 2009 and gave private lessons in 2009.

“I am excited to be involved with collegiate tennis again,” said Campus. “The opportunity to transition from a player now to a coach Bemidji State will be a challenge, but it is something I look forward to.

“With a new coaching now staff in place and several new players on the roster, we look at this season as a new beginning and are embracing this season together.  We have a great group of players and I think they are up to the challenge of playing tennis at this level.”

A member of the BSU community since the fall of 2009, Campus is a communication specialist at 360 Manufacturing and Applied Engineering Center of Excellence.

A 2007 graduate of Ball State with a degree in telecommunications with a news emphasis, Campus earned a master’s degree from her Alma mater in journalism specializing in public relations in 2008.
