Derrick Young Jr., is in his third season with Bemidji State track & field in 2019-20. Young Jr., coaches sprints and helped BSU earn its first entry to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships since 2011.

Young Jr., guided sophomore sprinter Venice Stewart to the 2018-19 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships following an All-NSIC performance, the Beavers' first all-conference and national championship qualifying sprinter since 2011. Stewart finished third in the 200m dash with a program-record time of 24.79 to earn her first All-NSIC honor before advancing to the NCAA Indoor Championships. The BSU sprinters set five indoor and three outdoor program records through the 2018-19 seasons.

Young Jr., graduated from Tiffin University in 2013 after running on the track & field team for two seasons. He ran the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes with the Dragons.
