Buerkle started her day off strong, sprinting her way to a victory in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.52 seconds. The sophomore would only get better from there, as she was victorious in her next event of the day the 200-meter dash, finishing in 26.34 seconds. Next up was the 400-meter dash which Buerkle finished on top with a time of 59.30.
Junior thrower Kelsey, for the second week in a row, had a successful day in the throwing ring, finishing in first place in the weight throw, with a distance of 45-07.25. Freshman sprinter Kirsten Maras (Fr., Ramsey, Minn.) had a strong showing in the women’s 400-meter dash finishing just shy of second place with a time of 1:02.88, as she chased down teammate Buerkle.
In the first running event of the day BSU sophomore Hartsell strode to the front of the pack in the mile run finishing with a personal-best time of 4:35.37 minutes, which was good enough for a first place finish.
Bemidji State high jumpers stole the show at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness center on Saturday. Freshman jumper Wagner took the title in the high jump with a height of 6-02.75 feet. His teammates Marcus Dennis (Fr., Walker, Minn.), Brock Beidleman (Jr., Anoka, Minn.), and Brian Baulke (So. LeCenter, Minn.) finished in order behind Wagner.
The men’s and women’s track and field squad will hit the road next weekend as they travel towards the shore of Lake Superior to compete in the St. Scholastica meet in Duluth, Minn. on Feb. 14. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
