Buerkle sets record, paces Bemidji State at Beaver Twilight
BEMIDJI, Minn. (Gillett Fitness-Recreation Center) -- Standout sprinter Kristi Buerkle (Sr., Stacy, Minn.) broke her own school record in the 200-meter dash and added a victory in the 400-meter dash to lead the Bemidji State University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams as they competed in the Beaver Twilight Thursday. The Beavers captured eight event titles on the evening, including a pair of 4x400-meter relay wins.

Buerkle broke her own school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.18, a time that ranks tied for 12th in the country this season and also provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. The senior sprinter followed up with a season best-time in 400-meter dash, breaking the tape in 55.37-the time ranks as the fastest time in the NSIC this season and provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships with the third best time in the nation.

Distance runner Genna Ironi (Sr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) won the one mile run posting a time of 5:41.91, with teammate Alison Hougen  (Bemidji, Minn.) finishing in second-place (5:49.83).

On the men’s side, Marc Sizer (So., St. Peter, Minn.) took first-place in the 60-meter hurdles with a 2011-best time of 9.09, while senior Pat Diedrich (Avon, Minn.) finished first in the 1000-meter run (2:40.28).

In the field the Beavers where lead by sophomore Raphael Gelo (Kabetogama, Minn). Gelo tied for first in the pole vault clearing 15-00.00. In addition, Gelo ran the anchor leg for the winning 4x400-meter relay team (3:32.56).

The Bemidji State men’s and women’s track and field teams have a week off as they prepare to host the 2011 NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 25-26 at the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center on the campus of Bemidji State University.
