Beavers begin 2017-18 indoor track and field season Friday at SDSU Holiday Open and Multi

Beavers begin 2017-18 indoor track and field season Friday at SDSU Holiday Open and Multi

Bemidji, Minn. – The Bemidji State University track and field team will open the 2018 indoor season by traveling to Brookings, S.D., Friday, Dec. 1 for the South Dakota State University Holiday Open & Multi. The events will begin at 1:15 p.m. at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex with the women’s pentathlon.

THE EVENTS
Bemidji State will send five student-athletes to take part in the pentathlon, which includes the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m run.

THE PARTICIPANTS
Juniors Christa Benson and Kelsey Hurley will look to lead the Beavers Friday, with freshmen Cheri’a Adams, Libby Christenson and Aneesa Tucker also making the trip.

Benson’s best finish in the pentathlon came Feb. 12, 2017 at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships when she scored 2,737. She set personal best marks in the 800m (2:35.78) and the long jump (15-5.5) during the pentathlon at the event. Hurley set a personal best mark of 2,990 at Iowa Western Community College prior to transferring to Bemidji State. She holds personal best marks of 9.64 in the 60m hurdles, 2:41.24 in the 800m, 5-8.75 in the high jump, 16-8.5 in the long jump and 28-1 in the shot put.

Adams, Christenson and Tucker will each be participating in their first events with the Beavers squad.

NEXT UP
Following the Holiday Open, Bemidji State will continue its Indoor season by traveling to Duluth, Minn., Saturday, Dec. 9 for The Opener before returning home to host the Super 8 Open at the Gillet Recreation and Fitness Center in Bemidji, Minn. on Saturday, Dec. 13.
