BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A full slate of evets is scheduled for the Bemidji State University track and field team Saturday, Feb. 3 as the program heads to Duluth, Minn., to take part in the Lake Superior Challenge. Field events begin at 11 a.m. followed by track events at 12 p.m. from the Burns Wellness Commons.

The Beavers will participate in five of the six field events Saturday, including the weight throw, long jump, high jump, shot put and triple jump, which all begin at 11 a.m. Running events follow at 12 p.m. with the Beavers placing student-athletes in the 60m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 600m run, 800m run, one-mile run, 60m hurdles and 4x400m relay.

Bemidji State sent its squad to Grand Forks, N.D., to partake in the UND Indoor Open, where the Beavers saw seven student-athletes place among the top five of their respective events while 15 also set personal records in their events.

Freshman Venice Stewart was able to take a first-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.99 while setting the program’s 60m dash record with a second-place finish and time of 7.71. Junior Christa Benson, who took part in the pentathlon to open the UND Indoor Open Friday, placed third in the event with a personal best mark of 3,015. The Beavers also brought home a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay, ran by Benson, sophomore Jada Barker, junior Kelsey Hurley and Stewart, with a time of 4:00.45.

Leading the way in the field events was freshman Cheri’A Adams with a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 16-feet-02.25-inches, while Hurley tied for fifth in the high jump with a mark of 4_11.00. Sophomore Gena Baklund placed sixth in the discus throw with a toss of 131-01 and junior thrower Samara Tobeck placed eighth in the weight throw with a personal record mark of 48-06.00.

Bemidji State continues its indoor trek Friday, Feb. 9 as it takes part in the South Dakota State University Classic in Brookings, S.D.
